Annual Report of the President

43 new UEP members could be recruited in 2014. All new UEP members get a UEP membership certificate by post.

In 2014, Prof. Nasser Kotby, Cairo, Egypt and Prof. Erkki Vilkman, Helsinki, Finland, became honorary members of UEP. Because of illness the certificate of honorary membership could not be handed to Prof. Antoni Pruszewicz at the AGM of UEP in Turin in 2013 but was handed on occasion of the XLVI Congress of the Polish Society of Otorhinolaryngologists and Head and Neck Surgeons in Bydgoszcz, Poland, on 3rd September 2014. At the same congress Prof. Antoinette am Zehnhoff-Dinnesen became honorary member of the Polish Society of Otorhinolaryngologists and Head and Neck Surgeons for her merits for the European phoniatrics.

To make the medal of honorary membership more similar to the UEP certificate of honorary membership and because of a mistake in the Latin text and a mistake in the Russian text of the UEP logo on the medal of honorary membership of the former UEP a new UEP medal was created. The president and the UEP board members were supported by the expert for Latin language Dr. Norbert Köster, Münster, and the high school graduate Oliver Kötter from Münster who is excellent in design. The latter had already designed the UEP certificate of honorary membership, the certificate of UEP membership, the letter paper of UEP and the UEP stamp.

Our UEP treasurer Ahmed, Geneid MD PhD, Helsinki, Finland, created for all UEP members the wonderful UEP pin. If you do not yet have a UEP pin, please contact Nicole Neptun in the UEP Office: uep-office@phoniatrics.eu.

The UEP members Prof. Horst Gundermann, Heidelberg, and Prof. Hans von Leden, Los Angeles, passed away. Continuously, data of European and international congresses and symposia have been collected by the president to timely provide information to the UEP members. Since November 2014, the UEP secretary Jakub Drsata MD PhD, Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, disburdens the president and performs a congress calendar. Recent information is monthly emailed to all UEP members.

Prof. Christiane Neuschaefer-Rube, the president of the European Academy of Phoniatrics (EAP), the UEP president and the board members of UEP and EAP decided to start with the 1st course of the EAP. With help of Prof. Philippe Dejonckere the UEP president could find a nice course venue in Brussels and attractive restaurants for the evening program. The UEP president helped to organise and to promote this 1st EAP Course while the EAP president at present focuses on checking digital opportunities for teaching and education which we will offer in addition to the EAP courses. The course program addresses phoniatricians, trainees in phoniatrics and ENT colleagues who are interested in phoniatrics. If you want to participate, please contact Nicole Neptun from the UEP Office: uep-office@phoniatrics.eu.

A new UEP/EAP flyer was developed. These flyers may be requested in the UEP Office by the national UEP coordinators for recruiting new members and in addition by all UEP members for display on congresses.

Professor Antoinette am Zehnhoff-Dinnesen, President of UEP, Past-President of the German Society of Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology, Münster, Germany

Since the general assembly in Lund, May 14, 2011, the president has conducted the following activities:

For the reorganisation of UEP a new internet form has been developed by the president and Peter Matulat, managerial psychologist of the Clinic for Phoniatrics in Muenster, Germany. The data automatically flow into an excel table which disburdens the treasurer and allows to generate a web-based map of all UEP members. To be able to give advice to the other recruiting coordinators, the president began to ask (by email, postally or by a phone call) all phoniatricians in Germany whether they want to stay or to become a UEP member. This work is nearly completed. Concerning the reworking of an old list of German UEP members, I cordially thank Juergen Wendler and Wolfram Seidner, Berlin, as well as Wolfram Behrendt and Michael Fuchs, Leipzig.
A network of recruiting coordinators has been developed for 20 European countries.

For the first 136 members of the “new” UEP, an email distribution list has been established by the president.

With the aid of Juergen Wendler, Berlin, Dirk Deuster, Muenster and Michael Fuchs, Leipzig, Germany, a UEP flyer has been created with the placet of the board and the UEP delegates. The data file of the flyer has been emailed to all recruiting coordinators, about 1100 flyers have been printed, which may be requested by the recruiting coordinators and in addition may be displayed on congresses by each UEP member.

Data of European and international congresses and symposia have been collected by the president to timely provide information to the UEP members.
The UEP letterhead and the UEP stamp are modernised with the aid of Peter Matulat.

The president presented the European Phoniatricians’ standpoint concerning the European Consensus Statement on Hearing, Vision and Speech Screening in Pre-School and School-Children on the Congress of the European Federation of Audiology Societies (EFAS), June 22-24, 2011 in Warsaw and on the Conference of the European Health Ministers, November 7-8, 2011 in Poznan.

A UEP session was organized for the XVIth Congress of the International Association of Physicians in Audiology (IAPA) in Beijing, China, October 19-21, 2012.
